Centre’s 200 crore grant for Tirupur dyeing industry
The Central government has sanctioned Rs 200 crore for the Tirupur dyeing industry, which was on the verge of closure due to severe financial crisis.
New Delhi
The Centre has taken cognizance of the challenges faced by the dyeing industry in Tirupur and on the recommendation of the Ministry of Textiles, the Ministry of Finance has sanctioned Rs 200 crore to the State government for 18 Common Effluent plants (CETPs) as an interest free loan to be converted into grant based on the performance of the CETPs. The move will help ailing CETPs and 450 dyeing units to recover from the financial crisis. More than 450 dyeing units in Tirupur had collectively set up 18 CETPs with a total cost of Rs 1,013 crore. However, the project faced several technical challenges and cost overrun which put them under financial crisis.
