Top cop tells Maoists to lay down arms, fight for tribals in elections
Stating that using weapons will not bring about a solution for any cause, senior security adviser for the Union Home Ministry and former Director General of Police K Vijaya Kumar added that Maoists should lay down weapons and fight for the rights of tribal people in a democratic way.

Vijaya Kumar was here on Sunday while returning from Palakkad – after attending a private event. According to him, youth who lost their way join Maoist movement. He observed that Maoists have gained strength in the tri junction over the last four years and that youth from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka were among armed Maoists moving close to the Kerala border. He said the special task forces and governments of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka should join hands to end the armed struggle. Vijaya Kumar said that the respective district administrations and state governments could play an important role in curtailing Maoists. He said that the administration should identify the needs of the people and bridge the gap.
