Demonetisation makes its way into Christmas crib display
Demonetisation has percolated so deep into the psyche of the people that a drawing master of Thoothukudi chose to highlight the issue in a Christmas crib.
Madurai
Isidor Fernando working at St Laselle Higher Secondary School in the port city has been creating unique crib with social messages every year. On the 16th such occasion, money and dry ATMs got featured along with the traditional Christmas crib. “Last year, I highlighted the plight of the Chennai people who suffered the worst during the unprecedented floods. This year obviously, the theme has to be demonetisation as all the sections of the society have been affected directly by the move,” said Isidor to DTNext.
The drawing master added “What was more pathetic was that majority of the ATMs were not working and people were standing in long queues outside the banks and ATMs. They even lost their livelihood owning to the shortage of small denominations. Hence, I have portrayed the scene on the crib.”
He had even shown Gandhiji standing in the queue along with common public. “Those who are honest and poor were most affected while the rich had managed to stash large number of new notes so soon. I have included all the aspects of demonetisation on the crib,” Isidor said. He has liberally used newspaper clippings and the highlight is the blown up image of the new Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 notes. Of course, the birth of Jesus Christ takes the centre stage in the display.
