An interrogation has revealed that the head constable had cleared about 113 passport applications and the police are in the process of cancelling all the applications.
As the Valanadu police station near Thuvarankurichi received an unusually higher number of passport applications for verification, which were cleared in no time, the intelligence sleuths grew suspicion and alerted the Superintendent of Police T Senthil Kumar. He in turn instructed the Manapparai DSP Vanitha to conduct a detailed investigation.
During the investigation, the DSP was shocked to find that the documents attached for verification were fake and they were readied by agents identified as Radhakrishnan (48) from Srirangam and Veeran Chettiyar. They formed a nexus with a head constable Seeman of Valanadu police station got the fake applications cleared in haste.
Most of the applicants had no proof of living in the locality. For instance, one of the files named Ajith Kumar was found that there was no such a person living in the locality. The police also found out that several brokers from the same locality were involved in preparing fake passports. Mani (46), Mohammed Ismail (55), Mohammed Abbas (44), Nizar Mohammed (46) and Vellaisamy (50) have been arrested. Apart from head constable Seeman, another broker Radhakrishan has also absconded. The investigation has opened a Pandora’s Box as the brokers were found to be preparing fake ration cards and voters IDs too.
Out of the total applications, as many as 13 applications have already been cleared for the release of passports and two passports have already been issued. “We have asked to block those two passports which were already issued and the other 11 applications have been directed to withdraw the verification. Only after Seeman and agent Radhakrishnan are arrested, the entire story would be known,” SP Senthil Kumar stressed.
