Elangovan, TNCC chief, spar again
The cracks within the faction-ridden Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) came to the fore again with two of its senior most leaders engaged in a war of words over the demand for a ‘white paper’ on the treatment provided to late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

Earlier, EVKS Elangovan flayed Thirunavukkarasar for his views opposing the demand for a white paper. He described TNCC chief’s views as “personal and not that of the party,” and accused him of trying “to protect someone.” Talking to media persons at Keeranur on Sunday Thirunavukkarasar reiterated that “what he had said on white paper issue was indeed the official stand of the Congress party.”
In a veiled reference to Elangovan’s remarks, the TNCC president said “such remarks reflected the unstable mind of the person making the comment.” Thirunavukkarasar welcomed DMK Treasurer MK Stalin’s condemnation of the unruly behaviour of some DMK cadre towards MDMK General Secretary Vaiko, when the latter came to a private hospital to visit the ailing DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Saturday. He added “Vaiko’s visit to the hospital to enquire about the health of Karunanidhi showed his culture.”
At Chennai airport he charged the BJP leaders with not doing anything for the post cyclone clean-up efforts in the state. “They (BJP leaders) posed for pictures hailing the Swachh Bharat mission and they claimed to clean-up and now they did nothing for the post cyclone clean-up efforts,” he told reporters. He urged the Union government to sanction Rs 5000 crore towards cyclone relief and rehabilitation efforts.
