Focus now on cases against persons held for Facebook posts on Jaya’s health
Tamil Nadu’s new CM O Paneerselvam’s first test of governance would in all probability be how he handles the 43 cases field by TN police and the arrest of 7 persons for their social media comments on Jayalalithaa’s health during her tenure in Apollo Hospitals.

“The state government will have no case following Jayalalithaa’s demise as the arrested were ultimately proved right” political analyst T. George said. The arrests were then keeping with Jayalalithaa’s disdain for those commenting on her which her government faithfully carried out even during her hospitalisation. Police officials had then stated that “Special teams were constituted to look into the issue as the “offences if proved right were liable to result in 7 years RI (rigorous imprisonment) for the offenders.” What officialdom failed to realise is that the public had a right to know about their CM’s health. “Lack of regular reports from Apollo hospital was the reason for comments on social media” added George. “Paneerselvam now has the task of ending the cases without seeming to be in a hurry to exert authority on his own. His ability to extricate the government without seeming to give in easily will result in the public getting the right message about his ability to govern. And the state is watching to see how he moves on this score.
