    Suicide bid by four girl students of Adi Dravidar hostel in Theni

    Four school girls staying at Adi Dravidar Hostel had attempted suicide by consuming poison at the hostel. All the four girls were hospitalised and were treated at Theni Government Hospital.

    According to sources, the four girls, one studying in Class 7 and another in Class 8 and the other two in Class 9 at Government Girls Higher Secondary School at Chinnamanur in Theni district attempted to end their life by consuming dandruff tonic on Wednesday night at the hostel. When they fainted at the hostel, they were immediately rushed to the hospital. After intensive treatment, the doctors declared them as out danger on Thursday morning. Police rushed to the hospital and carried out investigation with the girls. 

    One of them admitted to the attempt and said that their teachers had threatened to fail them in the examination. Fearing failure, they resorted to this extreme step, she said. Following the statement of the girl, Police had informed the Officials of Education Department and they too carried out an investigation with the teachers. Meanwhile, Theni Collector Venkatachalam, said that investigation is going on and in the preliminary stages. The role of warden of the Adi Dravida hostel has been suspected to be behind the attempt, the Collector claimed. However, officials of Adi Dravidar Welfare and Revenue departments are also investigating and anything concrete could be said only after the investigations are completed.
