“Though Salem Railway Division was formed a decade ago and is functioning from Salem, more than a dozen railway stations in Salem, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts - including Omalur, Dharmapuri, Palacode, Marandahalli, Rayakottai, Anchetty, Denkanikottai, Kelamangalam and Hosur - still are functioning under the Bangalore Railway Division,” the MP said. Speaking to reporters over phone on Thursday he further said that passengers in these areas have to go all the way to Bengaluru to lodge complaints or get their railway related grievances redressed.  Pointing out that during the riots over the Cauvery River issue, Anbumani said that passengers from these areas have been afraid of going to Karnataka.

According to the former Union Minister, the bifurcation is also much needed to carry out the Dharmapuri to Morappur railway line project. “Dharmapuri railway station is under Bangalore Railway Division while Morappur station is under the Salem Railway Division. There will be administrative issues when the Ministry initiates the project,” he said. At this juncture, he strongly felt that the work will progress smoothly if the above said stations are brought under Salem Railway Division. According to him this is also a long pending demand of the people of this region. He said that highlighting all these issues he made a representation to the Railway Minister in writing at New Delhi on Wednesday. “The Minister has assured to look into the issue at the earliest,” he added.
