Anna University panel to study water at Thirparappu
The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court had directed the government to set up an expert committee comprising experts from Anna University to study water shortage at Thirparappu in Kanniyakumari district.

Petitioner, Manoharan from Kaliyal in Kanniyakumari district, in his petition had claimed that Kodhai River running near Thirparappu is the source of water for people in the area and a check dam was already constructed from which water for Villukuri Integrated Water Scheme is supplied. However government had come up with a new scheme named Azhagiyapandiyapuram Integrated Water Scheme. If this is implemented, people living in the downstream of Thirparappu Waterfalls would be affected. Â Mano Thangaraj, MLA, had also petitioned that the scheme was opposed by Kaliyal and Thiruparappu Town Panchayat. He wanted the Pazhayaru to be revivied to its originally glory. The court said that only a technically sound team can assess the situation and directed the team to submit a report in two months.
