Innovation scheme to benefit over 250 fish sellers: Jayakumar
State Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar inspected and later reviewed the functioning of the TN Innovation Initiatives (TNII) scheme for the current year at the TN Fisheries College unit at Madhavaram.

The scheme started under the aegis of the TN fisheries university includes increasing the population of both local and foreign ornamental fish species through improved infrastructure and following the latest techniques to increase fish spawn production. The minister accompanied by fisheries university VC Dr. G. Rathanakumar and fisheries college principal Dr. S. Felix went around the facility which has 10 units for increased spawn production, interior and exterior water courses, live bait production zones, fish disease research centre, the two contagious diseases units and the 50 small shops and commercial ventures on the premises.
The minister later said that nearly 250 fish producers and sellers were expected to benefit by the scheme. The inclusion of research scholars and experts was expected to increase scheme benefits through improved ornamental fish species, he added. The scheme would be overseen through an operation and maintenance process drawn up by the university, he said and added that the scheme would be handed over to selected producers and sellers either on rent or lease.
