Aparajith bowls Rovers to win; Affan stars for MRC ‘A’

CHENNAI: Off-spinner Baba Aparajith (5/31) earned five wickets in the second innings as Jolly Rovers CC defeated Alwarpet CC by 41 runs on the final day of the TNCA First Division 2022-23 contest at the IIT-M Chemplast Ground here on Friday.

At the Pachaiyappa’s College Ground, left-arm spinner Rajwinder Singh (6/33) scalped six first-inning wickets for India Pistons CC, which secured five points from the drawn match against Globe Trotters SC. Elsewhere, first-innings centurion M Affan Khader (118 not out off 165 balls, 11 fours) helped MRC ‘A’ defeat Swaraj CC by an innings and 19 runs.

Meanwhile, opening batter R Kavin (106 retired hurt off 178 balls, 10 fours, 4 sixes) continued his rich vein of form and steered Grand Slam CC to five points against Madras CC. Later, MCC opener M Vishal (103 not out off 98 balls, 16 fours, 1 six) struck his maiden hundred in the top division in the second innings, but his knock was just a consolation for his team.
