Liverpool, City earn first-leg wins

LISBON: Goals from Ibrahima Konate, Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz earned Liverpool a 3-1 victory over Benfica in its Champions League quarter-final first leg here on Tuesday. Centre-back Konate (17’) opened the scoring with a header off a corner while Mane (34’) doubled the advantage from a Diaz assist. Three minutes from normal time, Liverpool made it 3-1, courtesy of Diaz (87’), who scored on the counter-attack. In Manchester, Manchester City took a slender lead in the tie after Kevin De Bruyne’s (70’) goal secured the home team a 1-0 triumph over Atletico Madrid.
