Record entries for MUC snooker

The Madras United Club Singles and Doubles Snooker Tournament has attracted a record 164 entries. The tournament for non-medallists will be played for almost a month.

The Madras United Club is one of the oldest clubs in the city. It was founded in 1888 and has teams in cricket, hockey, tennis, billiards and snooker. Buchi Babu Naidu, one of the founders, and his sons Venkataramanujulu, M Baliah and C Ramaswami were distinguished names from the club. SA Saleem had represented India in the World Cup Billiards Championship in Melbourne.


The organisers said the snooker tournament has attracted over 160 entries in singles. The format of the event is best of three frames up to pre-quarter-finals and best of five thereafter.
