Injury scare for England vice-captain Jos Buttler
England suffered an injury scare early on day two of the first Test against India at Edgbaston as vice-captain Jos Buttler was taken to hospital for an x-ray on his left middle finger.
Buttler dived to attempt to catch India captain Virat Kohli off the bowling of James Anderson and immediately looked into discomfort. He dived to his left at gully but the ball did not quite carry and appeared to clip his fingertip. Buttler immediately called for sub and was taken to hospital shortly after.
Buttler was recalled to the Test set-up in May by new chief selector Ed Smith after an 18-month absence. The 27-year-old was then appointed vice-captain on the eve of the first Test against India, mirroring his role in England’s one-day side where he has been so successful.
The Lancashire batsman was out for a duck in the first innings but England will be hoping he is available to take part in their second.
