ENGvIND: Ashwin, Shami shine as India bowls out England for 287 in the first innings
Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin produced one of his impactful performance outside the sub-continent as India reduced England to 287 on the second day of the first cricket Test at Birmingham.
Four wickets for Ashwin, three for Shami and they usher India back to the pavilion. India did a good job after being asked to bowl first.Â
Cook was dismissed early, Jennings looked composed, so did Root, it needed a bit of luck to dislodge that pair, Bairstow counter-punched on his way to 70, Root batted serenely for 80, but a slice of brilliance from Virat Kohli brought India back into the match.Â
The hosts lost their last seven wickets for 72 runs as Ashwin and Shami ran amok. The bowlers have done their job, it's up to the batsmen now to make sure that the advantage isn't frittered away.
Brief Scores: Day 2, England 287/10 (Joe Root 80, Keaton Jennings 42; Ravichandran Ashwin 4/62) in the first session. India trail by 287 runs
