Our bowlers won the match, says Kaalai’s Srinivasan
After Karaikudi Kaalai posted an emphatic eight-wicket win over VB Kanchi Veerans for its first win in this season’s TNPL, Kaalai all-rounder R Srinivasan praised the effort of his bowlers for limiting Kanchi to 145.
Chennai
“It feels great to be on the winning side especially after such a dominating performance.
Our plan was to chase since this is a very good track for batting. Credit goes to our bowlers, and we bowled according to our plans, it was extremely pleasing to see how it panned out,” said Srinivasan.
Srinivasan was also full of praise for his captain S Anirudha for his whirlwind unbeaten knock of 93 off just 49 balls.
“He is a wonderful batsman. He has a special liking for this ground. Tonight’s fifty was his fourth consecutive half-century on this ground so we are lucky to have him at the top,” added Srinivasan.
Although his team ended up losing to Kovai Kings in its first match, Srinivasan said it took many positives from that narrow defeat.
“We took a lot of positives from the first match. We were in a losing position, but we managed to make a comeback and tied the game although we lost it in the Super Over.
The win against Kanchi Veerans provides us the winning momentum which we will be hoping to carry forward.” Meanwhile, after seeing his team slump to a second defeat in as many matches, Kanchi Veerans’ all-rounder Subramania Siva blamed it on his team losing too many wickets in the Powerplay.
“We lost too many wickets in the Powerplay, and recovering from that was always going to be difficult. We needed to score 170 at least.
Credit to their bowlers but we should have batted better,” rued Siva.
Despite the heavy defeat, Siva took comfort from how his team-mate Sanjay Yadav waged a lone battle with the bat.
“It was brilliant to see the way he was clearing the boundary line. If he could have batted for two-three overs more, we could have reached a far better total.
” Siva gave credit to the rival team’s captain, S Anirudha for his innings that changed the complexion of the match. “I think we began really well, but this is a very difficult ground to defend totals on.
Our first innings total was below par and once Anirudha started opening up, he was quite unstoppable,” signed off Siva.
