Rana misses match against Super Kings
Kolkata Knight Riders middle-order batsman Nitish Rana was down with a lower back spasm and missed the tie against Chennai Super Kings on Thursday.
Kolkata
One of their most consistent middle-order batsmen, Rana walked off the field while on 17 during its six-wicket win at Royal Challengers Bangalore last week. Rinku Singh replaced Rana.
“He’s lower back spasms. The medical team will take a call tomorrow morning,” a team official said as Rana did not attend its fullfledged training session ahead of its match against CSK. Rana, who has 188 runs from eight matches at 31.33, has two man-of-the-match awards to his name and his part-time off-spin has also come in handy for the team to give crucial breakthroughs.
He was purchased by the franchise for an amount of Rs 3.4 Crore during the IPL auction. He has contributed well in team’s success.
Talented batsman Shubman Gill, who batted at No 7, was the beneficiary when Rana sat out batting up the order. He came in at four and played an unbeaten match-winning knock of 57 off 36 balls.
