Semenya adds 800m gold to kitty
A dominant Caster Semenya won gold for South Africa in the women’s 800m final with a Games record of one minute 56.68 seconds in the Commonwealth Games on Friday.
Semenya led from start to finish for her second gold of the Games after her success in the 1,500m. Margaret Nyairera Wambui of Kenya took silver while Jamaica’s Natoya Goule won the bronze. Uganda’s Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei claimed gold in the men’s 10,000 metres with a Games record time of 27 minutes 19.62 seconds.
Cheptegei, who also won gold in the 5,000m event at the Gold Coast, eclipsed the mark set by Kenya’s Wilberforce Talel.
Canada’s Mohammed Ahmed won silver while Kenya’s Rodgers Kwemoi took bronze.
