Kerala Police gets the better of TN Youth to bag SNJ Volleyball Trophy

Despite going down in the first set, Kerala Police managed to come back and win 17-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-20 against Tamil Nadu Youth. Kerala took home a cash award of Rs 75,000 while Tamil Nadu Youth received a cash price of Rs 50, 000. 

Unlike the men’s category, where it was a knockout format, the top two teams from the group stages qualified for the final. 

TN had the upper hand in the first set, controlling the proceedings for most part of it. It ended up winning the set 25-17. Kerala looked a different team in the second half, taking a three-point lead as the score was 17-14. 

What seemed like a close encounter started to drift in favour of Kerala Police as it extended its lead and squared things up at the end of the second set. Both teams had won one set each. It won it by a margin of nine points, taking the set with a scoreline of 25-16. 

Kerala started the third set on a bright note, having a five-point lead at 9-4 during the initial stages of the set. Drop balls from the attackers and good net play helped Kerala maintain a big lead going into the first time-out. 

The trend continued as Kerala Police had an eight-point advantage going into the first time-out of the fourth set. It later won the set comfortably at 25-13. 

Though TN had a slender lead of three points at the start of the fourth set, it failed to capitalise on it. Kerala once again came back and clinched the set at 1912. Tamil Nadu scored four consecutive points towards the end, but it was too late to keep the contest alive. In the men’s category, SRM University and Tamil Nadu Police entered the final with wins against Karnataka and ICF respectively.
