Coimbatore wins inter-districts tourney
Coimbatore inflicted a 170-run drubbing on Tirunelveli in the final of the TNCA inter-districts U-23 tournament on Tuesday.
Chennai
Batting first, Coimbatore scored 285 for six from the stipulated 50 overs with S Sujay emerging the highest scorer with 83. Other notable contributions came from N Mohammed Ashik and left-handed opener C Hari Nishaanth who both scored an identical 43. Another southpaw M Abhinav made a useful 36. Tirunelveli’s K Aravind picked three wickets for 61 runs.Â
Setting off in its victory pursuit, Tirunelveli was let down by an inept batting display as it struggled to stitch together any meaningful partnerships. Barring K Aravind who put up a brave show of resistance scoring 51, none of the other batsmen showed the stomach for a battle as they capitulated meekly handing the victory to Coimbatore on a platter. Coimbatore leg-spinner Abhinav dazzled with the ball taking four wickets for 23 runs to help his team bowl out Tirunelveli for 115.
BRIEF SCORES: Coimbatore 285/6 in 50 overs (N. Mohammed Ashik 43, C. Hari Nishaanth 43, S. Sujay 83, M. Abhinav 36, K. Aravind 3/61) bt Tirunelveli 115 in 31.3 overs (K. Aravind 51, M. Abhinav 4/23)Â
