“I’m excited to be picked up by Chennai Super Kings on my Indian Premier League debut, more so because Mahi bhaiya (MS Dhoni) is leading the side and he knows how to extract the best out of me... he knows my bowling,” said Monu Kumar to the side’s official website.
The ‘Lions’ will resume practice on Monday after a day’s break. Monu Kumar bowled some key spells during Jharkhand’s march to the semi-finals in the 2016-17 National 50-overs Championship.
“I got to learn a lot under Dhoni during that Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign,” recollected Monu Kumar. “He advised me a lot on how to think as a bowler and where to bowl. I used to try and bowl fast previously but he made me understand that it wasn’t about pace alone but also movement and knowing where to bowl to a batsman,” continued Monu Kumar, who possesses the ability to get the ball to skid through.
“I took his advice, my bowling improved and the results followed,” said Monu Kumar, who represented India U-19 at the 2014 Junior World Cup. “I work on planning a batsman out. I stick to the basics, I live on line and length,” he concluded.
