Local League: Washington scalps seven to give Trotters the edge
Captain MS Washington Sundar’s excellent effort of seven for 39 enabled Globe Trotters to take a crucial first innings lead of 54 runs against India Pistons in the TNCA First Division League ‘Elite’ semi-final here on Saturday. At stumps, Trotters was ahead by 126 runs with seven wickets remaining.

Pistons’ A Venkatesh batted patiently to emerge his team’s highest scorer remaining undefeated on 69 (157b, 3x4, 1x6). At one stage, Pistons was in dire straits struggling at 110 for eight and later it became 128 for nine.
Rajwinder Singh joined hands with Venkatesh and the duo added a valuable 50 runs for the last wicket before Rajwinder became Washington’s seventh victim. Off-spinner Sunny Gupta took two wickets for 38. In its second innings, Trotters lost three early wickets to end the day’s play at 72 for three. All three wickets were taken by R Karthikeyan.
Trotters opener C Hari Nishaanth is at the crease batting on 46 (87b, 3x4, 2x6). In the other semi-final which is turning out to be a low-scoring contest, Grand Slam is ahead by 151 runs with six wickets remaining. Grand Slam medium pacer P Amarnath picked up six for 34, his first five-wicket haul of the season, to hasten Vijay CC’s end. V Yo Mahesh took three wickets for 29 runs.
Grand Slam was 139 for four in its second innings with Rahil Shah claiming three wickets for 31.
