Henrique Sereno achieves rare feat in ISL
Chennaiyin FC captain Henrique Sereno now holds a unique distinction of winning back-to-back ISL trophies. He had previously clinched the title under Spaniard Jose Francisco Molina in 2016.

The 32-year-old was rock-solid in the backline, remaining on the same page with Brazilian Mailson Alves, Inigo Calderon and 19-year-old Jerry Lalrinzuala.
“I feel I am lucky enough to win two titles in a row. It was difficult but with my teammates, everything was possible. We were amazing throughout the season and I feel we deserve that,” said Sereno with a sense of satisfaction.
The centre-back made 30 interceptions across the 18 games he featured, topping the chart alongside former teammate Tiri (Jamshedpur FC). His solitary goal for ISL 4 turned out to be the match-winner against FC Pune City at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune.
“This year, we knew our strength was the defence. We managed to show it in all the 21 games we played in this edition. The other members of the squad have equally contributed as well,” added the Portuguese.
He managed to net the equaliser for ATK in the ISL 2016 final, going onto bag the title in penalties at the in Kochi. He then agreed to join CFC, after he was impressed with the plans the team had for the future.
