Local League: Jagadeesan’s ton leads Grand Slam’s fightback against Nelson
Vijay CC’s B Aparajith scored his first ton of the season 128 (234b, 16x4, 3x6), but that wasn’t enough to stop his team from conceding the first innings lead to India Pistons in the Elite division of the TNCA First Division League here on Thursday.
Chennai
Resuming from 85 for one, Vijay’s innings ended at 305, 112 runs short of Pistons’ 417. I all looked good for Vijay CC when Aparajith and all-rounder J Kousik 82 (155b, 8x4, 3x6) added 185 runs for the second wicket in 54.4 overs. Pistons’ Rajwinder Singh then made some telling breakthroughs prising out six wickets for 56 runs. Spinner M Prabhu chipped in with three wickets of his own as Vijay’s batting imploded. Off-spinner Malolan Rangarajan scored 43 runs in the end to guide his team past 300.
Meanwhile, Grand Slam wicket-keeper N Jagadeesan struck a crucial 118 (147b, 13x4, 2x6) as led his team’s fightback against Nelson at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Jagadeesan and opener L Suryapprakash 96 (197b, 5x4, 1x6) raised 196 runs for the second wicket but once the duo was separated, Nelson bowlers pegged back its innings by taking quick wickets. But Grand Slam’s tailenders held firm to help their team get an equal share of the spoils.
