Local League: Coimbatore clinches TNCA Inter-District U-16 trophy

After taking a 20-run first-innings lead on Wednesday, Coimbatore made 181 for eight in its second innings on the strength of David’s five-wicket haul and then restricted Kancheepuram to 170 for nine with Hari Shankar taking four for 30.

Krishnagiri and Thiruvallur recorded massive wins in the TNCA Inter-District Under-19 Cricket Tournament semifinals on Thursday.

While Krishnagiri defeated Kancheepuram by 168 runs in the three-day match at Krishnagiri, Thiruvallur crushed Coimbatore by innings and 60 runs. Vignesh Iyer’s unbeaten 113 in the second innings was not enough for Kancheepuram as Krishnagiri had virtually sealed the match with a splendid show with the bat in its first innings.

Vignesh’s 142-ball knock was studded with 16 fours and a six. 

Similarly, Thiruvallur needed only one innings with the bat as left-arm spinner Rohith Ram took eight wickets for 47 to wreck Coimbatore in the second innings in the other semi-final at Gojan School of Business & Tech Ground, Thiruvallur. Rohith Ram took 13 wickets in the match for 98 runs.

Rohith Ram 8/47) lost to Thiruvallur 290 in 87.5 overs (R Vivek 30, V Dinesh Kumar 55, D Prashanth Prabhu 68, R. Raja Guru 45, Aditya Venkatesh 37, S Radhakrishnan 5/46)
