    Mumbai bolstered by Shaw’s return

Having lost to Goa on Tuesday, Tamil Nadu can’t afford another slipup when it takes on Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy here on Thursday.

Mumbai, meanwhile, has won both its opening two matches and its batting looks imposing. But, what should come as a shot in the arm for Mumbai is the return of the U-19 World Cup winning captain, Prithvi Shaw.

The teenager’s presence will undoubtedly bolster an already robust batting line-up. On the eve of the match, Mumbai coach Sameer Dighe expressed the hope that his inexperienced bowling attack will complement its in-form batsmen.

“The return of Prithvi Shaw will further strengthen our top order. We are happy with two wins from two matches. There is still a long way to go. I’m pleased with how we have been batting. We need to bowl with a little more discipline. The top order has been consistently delivering with Suryakumar Yadav and Siddesh Lad scoring hundreds. Now the bowlers have to do their bit,” said the 49-year-old.

Dighe rued the absence of its pace spearhead Shardul Thakur, who is with the Indian team in South Africa. “Ours is a young pace attack led by Dhawal Kulkarni. We are definitely missing Shardul Thakur. The most important thing for us is to put good totals on the board, so that our bowlers can defend such tall scores,” added the former India wicketkeeper.
