Real season for Chennaiyin FC starts only now: Gregory
Chennaiyin FC head coach John Gregory believes the acid test for his team’s campaign starts only when it squares off against Bengaluru FC in a home game on Tuesday.

“For me, the season starts only on Tuesday. We have just been jostling for positions thus far and this is when you find out how good you are. All the games, we have been part of, are similar to a Formula 1 practice session. The one who performs better will certainly have an advantage over the others. But if teams can win three on the trot, they could well seal a playoff spot,” said Gregory in the pre-match press conference.
Ten players from the CFC squad have scored in the Indian Super League Season 4 till date. Asked if having a number of goal scorers is of advantage, the Englishman said, “Jeje has scored seven in spite of not starting a game. It could become a burden if we expect him to score in every game. It is a testament to his goal-scoring ability. It is good that others have chipped in with goals as well. If we can get our little left-back to score a hat-trick, it could be great (laughs).”
CFC has five matches in the next 17 days. Commenting on the cramped schedule, he added, “There have been various periods where other teams have had the same scenario. I certainly feel the schedule has not been a problem for us. We can do nothing about it and we have just got on with it.”
