Tamil Nadu loses again in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20
Once Delhi beat Uttar Pradesh in Group B of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament at Kolkata on Thursday, there wasn’t much at stake in the other game in the group but Baroda’s bowlers did well to restrict Tamil Nadu to 123 for 7. And then Kedar Devdhar scored a quick half-century to help his side reach 125 for 5 in 17.1 overs for a five-wicket win.

Batting first after winning the toss, Tamil Nadu slipped to 28 for 4 by the end of the sixth over, the wickets including those of B Aparajith and Vijay Shankar, the captain, and never really recovered. N Jagadeesan (28 in 29 balls) and Washington Sundar (22 in 28) played patient knocks in a 45-run stand for the fifth wicket, and S Anirudha swung his bat around for an unbeaten 32 off 20 balls, with two fours and two sixes, towards the end, but that just about kept their team in the game.
In Baroda’s reply, Devdhar took off from the word go, dominating a firstwicket partnership of 36 runs in 3.5 overs with Urvil Patel, in which Urvil scored only one run in four balls before being dismissed by Rahil Shah.
Devdhar then stitched a 50-run stand with Swapnil Singh for the second wicket to effectively put the game beyond Tamil Nadu. Swapnil fell for a 25-ball 29 and Baroda lost a couple more wickets after that, but Devdhar’s 55-ball 68, with 11 fours, took it eight runs of the target before he fell lbw to Athisayaraj Davidson. The rest of the runs were knocked off easily.
