Mixed luck for Tamil Nadu

Jeena stole the show once again by top-scoring for the winner with 17 points while Srividhya’s (Tamil Nadu) 16-point effort went in vain.  The winner dominated the first quarter with a 15-point lead over the host and it turned out to be the crucial part of the game as the teams were evenly matched during the next three quarters. 

The Tamil Nadu women’s will next square off against Karnataka on Sunday. Tamil Nadu men’s team beat Indian Railways 95-85 in a Group B league match. It continued its fantastic run in the campaign as the victory against Indian Railways was its fourth on the trot in the league phase. TN had a slender five-point lead at half time, locked up at 50-45.  

A Aravind was the highest scorer for the host, contributing an invaluable 23 points. The title-holder in the men’s category, Uttarakhand, registered a comfortable 85-45 win over counterparts Kerala in a Group A encounter. It controlled the whole of the game, scoring more points in each of the two halves.  

In the other games of the day, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh defeated Services, Odisha, Haryana and Bihar respectively in the men’s section. Indian Railways, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh registered victories in the women’s event.

MEN: Chhattisgarh beat Services 85-46; Karnataka beat Odisha 78-40; Punjab beat Haryana 101-57; Madhya Pradesh beat Bihar 77-65; Uttarakhand beat Kerala 85-45; Tamil Nadu beat Indian Railways 95-85.

WOMEN: Chhattisgarh beat Madhya Pradesh 85-69; Indian Railways beat Telangana 105-30; Maharashtra beat Rajasthan 82-71; Kerala beat Tamil Nadu 69-53.
