TNCA to celebrate Sriraman’s centenary
To commemorate the birth centenary celebrations of the former president, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), S Sriraman on November 16, the organising committee of the centenary celebrations requested the current BCCI administration to conduct a tournament and institute an annual award in his memory.
Chennai
Sriraman was born on November 16, 1917 in Osur Village, near Villupuram, North Arcot district, Tamil Nadu. Right from his young age he always had a special interest and love for the game of cricket and it slowly developed and became a passion for the game and its administration.
In 1943, he was made one of the Joint Secretaries of the TNCA and he served till 1945 and then he resigned later, citing the reason that the Association will be better off with only one individual heading the administration.
During his tenure as Secretary of TNCA, he shifted the venue of the cricket ground from the corporation stadium (presently Nehru Stadium) to Chepauk, Triplicane.
He took up his national stint and became the Joint secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 1963-64 to 1964-65 for a period of two years. During his tenure as the President of BCCI, the first World Cup was held in India and Pakistan jointly in the year 1987 (Reliance Cup).
