Born in Chennai on December 31, 1941, Milkha Singh played four Tests for India and represented Madras (now Tamil Nadu) in domestic cricket. He scored 4324 runs and took five wickets in 88 first-class matches, but in his international career, he managed to score only 92 runs from six innings with a highest score of 35.

A left-handed batsman, Milkha made his Ranji Trophy debut at the age of 17. He was drafted into the national side on the basis of his exploits in junior cricket.

He struck his maiden first-class ton in the 1961-61 Duleep Trophy game against North Zone. Apart from his batting, he was also one of the finest fielders in the country in the 1960s.

Milkha made his international debut at the age of 18 against Australia in 1960 in Chennai, but his career for India lasted for only one and a half years.
