Dhas on song with the bat for Chepauk Super Gillies
Chepauk Super Gillies all-rounder and Man of the Match Antony Dhas was at his attacking best with the bat on Wednesday when he smashed 39 not out off 22 balls against Ruby Trichy Warriors and helped his side win the contest.
Chennai
CSG virtually entered the knockout stage of the TNPL with this win. When Dhas walked in at 70 for two, CSG needed 66 runs from 7.4 overs but the all-rounder made it look so easy as he slammed four sixes and one four to finish off the game with eight balls to spare. In an interview with the TNPL website at the presentation ceremony, Dhas admitted he had bowled in the death overs more last year but this year he has been more successful with the bat.
Excerpts:Â
Tell us more about your crucial knock...Â
Today’s innings is very special to me. I thoroughly enjoyed batting today as I came in during an important stage. I also realised that it was vital for me to take a chance in the middle overs. I knew we would win provided I stayed at the crease. I waited for the bowlers to bowl in my range. I gauged the situation correctly and then hit them accordingly. Â
How do you feel you have performed as an all-rounder this year?Â
Last year, I bowled quite often in the death overs, while these year I have bowled fewer overs at the death. Compared to last year, I have been conceding a lot of runs. Last year I managed to contain the batsmen and bowled a lot of yorkers. I don’t want to compare the two though as I give my 100 per cent with both ball and bat. I have batted like this before as an all-rounder. This year, during the practice sessions they simulated a lot of match scenarios. It was very helpful for me and the coach and captain have been extremely supportive. Whenever I have got the chance to bat higher, I have done well and I am trying to continue the same way. I am not feeling the pressure and I’m just enjoying my game.Â
How does it feel to win the Man of the Match award after a while?Â
Last year I won an award at the same ground, but for my bowling. This year, it’s special to win this award. I want to utilise whatever chance is given to me. It’s a happy time for me. One major plus point for me was after playing T20 last year, I got a chance to be part of the Deodhar Trophy squad for Tamil Nadu. The TNPL has been of great help to me and helped me improve my batting. My family had spoken to me before the match and told me I should win the Man of the Match award. I didn’t anticipate that my best innings would come today as I executed my plans well.
How has the support helped you?Â
My family have always helped me in any situation. Even if I fail, they support me. My coach Hari Subramaniam Sir puts faith in me under all circumstances. My sponsors who helped me during tough time: Britto Antony, Albert and Ruben, all helped me. Chepauk Super Gillies is a great team and we are like a family. Even if I perform badly the team has faith in me and push me to be successful. Thanks to my team for all the support.
