Kumble to remain coach for Windies tour: CoA chief
Committee of Administrators chief Vinod Rai has said Anil Kumble will stay on as India’s coach for the upcoming series against West Indies, subject to the acceptance of the former leg-spinner.
New Delhi
Kumble’s tenure as India’s head coach was set to end following the ongoing Champions Trophy, after having been appointed on a one-year basis last year.
The Cricket Advisory Committee of BCCI - comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman met on June 8 in London and had a twohour long discussion on the issue, but then informed BCCI CEO Rahul Johri that they would need more time.
BCCI secretary Amitabh Chaudhary stated in a press release: “The Cricket Advisory Committee of the BCCI met today and discussed the process with regard to the selection of the Head coach of the Senior India Men team and it was decided by the CAC to revert to the BCCI, at an appropriate time.”
As per earlier reports, the three-member committee was set to appoint the next head coach mid-way through the tournament.
Following a reported rift between skipper Virat Kohli and Kumble, it was stated that majority of the players in the Indian squad were against an extended run for Kumble as coach.
While Kumble reapplied for the post, he also has the likes of Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput, Richard Pybus and Dodda Ganesh to compete with for the position.
