Bhavani wins gold at Turnoi Satellite Fencing Championship
Earlier, the Chennai player had beaten another British fencer Jessica Corby 15-11 in the semi-final.

India's C A Bhavani Devi has won the gold medal inthe sabre event of the Turnoi Satellite Fencing Championship held at Reykjavikin Iceland.
In the final, she beat Sarah Jane Hampsonof Great Britain 15-13.
Earlier, the Chennai player had beatenanother British fencer Jessica Corby 15-11 in the semi-final.
Bhavani became the first Indian to win agold medal in an international fencing event. She had previously won a silvermedal in a satellite event. She trainsat the Sports Authority of India centre at Thalassery.
A delighted Bhavani said, "This is mythird time in this competition. I have lost in quarter finals in previousyears. Now I have won my first medal. It is also the first medal in world levelcompetition as I have won medals in Asian and Commonwealth championships.”
The competition was tough from thequarterfinals onwards, she said and added that in the semi-final and final, theBritish fencers made her work very hard for victory.
