Ramya not bogged down by not getting a chance to play in Premier Badminton League
Chennai Smashers smashed their way to the Premier Badminton League title when they got the better of Mumbai Rockets in the final of the league. The win saw Chennai pocket a prize money of Rs. 3 crore while Mumbai were rewarded with half of Chennai’s purse.

For the lone Chennai girl in the team, Ramya Tulasi, the experience of rubbing shoulders with the best in the business was a learning experience. “It (The league) has been great. I enjoyed being part along of Smashers along with Sindhu, Kashyap and Adcock. To travel with them and see them train for the matches for a big learning experience,” Ramya said.
There were a lot of things Ramya planned to learn from the league. “The first and foremost is the discipline that I want to imbibe. The players are focussed on what they do. The level of dedication shown by them is something I want to take away and put it in practice. I also took a cue on the diet they follow and the aggressive nature they possess on court,” she added. For any lover of the game, interacting with India’s Rio Olympic silver medal P V Sindhu would be a dream come true. “Sindhu talks about everything. She is just another normal girl. She talks about her family, her experiences in various tournaments and travel.
On court, it is always badminton for her. But off the court, she can talk about everything with ease,” Ramya said on her interactions with Sindhu. However, with a set doubles pair of Chris and Gabrielle Adcock, Ramya didn’t get a chance to play in the league but that hasn’t deterred her spirits. “It is more about the team moving forward than me getting a chance to play. Gabby n Chris are excellent and honestly I cannot match up to their standards of game to stake a claim to play. I have learnt a lot from watching and training with them and that is more important than me getting a chance this year,” Ramya added.
With Hyderabad being the badminton capital of India, the fourth-year civil engineering student of SSN College does not have immediate plans to move to the neighbouring state. “As of now education is the priority. But I am ruling that option out. I would certainly plan to move to Hyderabad if an opportunity arises,” Ramya added.
