Stokes bullish of restricting India on Monday
England all-rounder Ben Stokes said England’s game plan on Monday would be not to let India get too far ahead. A scintillating batting display from India saw the hosts score 331 runs for the loss of four wickets, 86 runs behind England with K L Rahul, Parthiv Patel and Karun Nair running riot.

At the end of the third day, Stokes said England couldn’t reap the rewards for the hard work they had put in the field. “I think we tried a lot but sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say they (India) played really well. The things that we tried to do, didn't get the rewards that we deserved. We changed round the wicket, over the wicket with the spin but we were still on the backfoot,” Stokes said.
Stokes said dismissing Indian skipper Virat Kohli was a plan that was well executed. “We planned for Broad getting Kohli by changing the angle. We came around and up the wicket and it worked for us. But unfortunately, India’s batting in every game, someone has gone on to get a big score. It's nice to see the back of Kohli but unfortunately someone has been scoring too,” the all-rounder added.
Stokes said it was nice to get a wicket at the end of the day. “I think we get into the dressing room and say we worked really hard. Both Nair and Vijay have to start again fresh on Monday. Then if we get one (wicket), there are obviously the allrounders, but we can aim to take wickets in close succession. Our aim would be to restrict them and not let them get too far ahead,” he added.
