When a canine delayed the inevitable

England spent the second session on the first day of the second Test match chasing the red cherry to almost every corner of the ground. Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli looked unstoppable and both batsmen reached their 90s and centuries from both the batsmen seemed unavoidable.

While the fans applauded for every run scored, some of them felt bad for the Englishmen too. Bowling and fielding in hot and humid conditions is a daunting task and to play a ‘good host’ card to help the struggling England fielders, a canine appeared from nowhere and it appeared like it wanted to help the England cricketers chase the ball.

With the players looking amused as the dog ran across the ground, Stuart Broad tried to frighten it but the canine dodged him in style to dart to the other end of the ground. Frantic groundsmen tried to chase the dog away and it disappeared between the advertisement hoardings near the pavilion only to make an appearance again. One groundsman threw his shoe towards the dog to chase it away only to fail as the cheers from the crowd grew louder confusing the animal.

With precious time lost and tea time approaching, the umpires decided to take early tea, in the middle of Broad’s over and the canine delayed the inevitable — much to the dismay of the crowd.
