Brathwaite keeps Pakistan at bay
A patient unbeaten 95 by opener Kraigg Brathwaite helped the West Indies run Pakistan close in their first innings on the second day in the third Test on Monday. The West Indies were 244 for six, 37 runs short of Pakistan’s first innings score of 281 all out.

Brathwaite was involved in two fruitful partnerships of 83 each, one with Roston Chase (50) for the fifth wicket and then with Dowrich (47) for the sixth wicket. The big stands rescued the West Indies from a shaky 64 for four. After sliding to 38 for 3 by lunch, West Indies fought back to a respectable position as Brathwaite’s 12th Test fifty steered the side through a second session in which they added 103 runs for the sole loss of Jermaine Blackwood.Â
After being bowled out within the first hour of play, Pakistan rebounded to pull ahead through early breakthroughs. Wahab Riaz dismissed Leon Johnson for 1 and then towards the end of the first session, Darren Bravo miscued a cross-batted swing off Zulfiqur Babar in the air towards midwicket, where Amir took a screamer of a catch. Soon after that, legspinner Yasir Shah trapped Marlon Samuels plumb in front and the batsman departed. Blackwood (23) briefly led West Indies’ fightback but fell to Amir.
