Abhishek Nayar, with an unbeaten 45, scored the winning runs, a six and a single to edge past Tamil Nadu. Mumbai were in a spot as K Vignesh and Aswin Crist shared eight second innings wickets to give Tamil Nadu an outside chance.

Nayar, who celebrated his 33rd birthday on Saturday had his legs in cast couple of months back due to an ankle injury. Almost one year ago, these two sides played out another exciting game which was also won by Mumbai by one wicket and now they have come up with something similar to kick off the new season. On a tricky track at Lahli, both sides struggled with the bat but the champions showed some resolve to pull through. Dhawal Kulkarni was named man of the match for his 10-wicket haul.
