608 shooters for South Zone meet

City Police Commissioner, Shailesh Kumar Yadav, shot the first bullet to inaugurate the event at the Madurai Rifle Club affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Rifle Club. 

Shooters from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are participating in the competition which is conducted under three categories of 50 m, 20 m and 10 m air pistol and air rifle. The events commenced on Wednesday morning and on Tuesday there were practise sessions at the Rifle club.

Vel Shankar, secretary of the Madurai Rifle Club, said that there are five categories based on age group like the sub-junior, youth, junior, senior and veteran categories. The number of participants had increased from 360 last year.
