Gillies meet Veerans at Chepauk
Chepauk Super Gillies will meet VB Thiruvallur Veerans in their last league match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here on Monday. Both the Gillies and Veerans have one foot in the semi-finals by winning four out of their six matches and a win on Monday will seal their berth in the knock-out phase of the league.

The Super Gillies had an action-packed last week when they won two out of their three matches in clinical fashion. A big plus for the team is their ability to step up the game with an all-round performance. Skipper Rajagopal Sathish has enough and more options up his sleeve in department of the game.Â
Openers Thalaivan Sargunam and KH Gopinath have shown they can take any attack to the cleaners on their day, as they did with a century partnership against Dindigul Dragons. Thalaivan was exceptional against Madurai Super Giants too and the big plus is his excellent fielding.Â
Veteran Vasanth Saravanan has been a useful contributor with the bat and Gowjith Subash has shown glimpses of form in the past matches. Sathish would be happy with his own performance after notching up the fastest 50 of the league on Saturday.Â
The bowling department looks good. Anthony Dhas has been among the records in the highest wicket takers category and would be keen to cement his place at the top of the category. Spinners R Alexander and Sai Kishore have spun a web on the opposite batsmen and stingy in giving away easy runs too. Sathish’s own form with the ball and Yo Mahesh’s experience would be handy in crunch situations for the Super Gillies.
On the contrary, the Veerans get to the match on a high by edging Kovai Kings in a high-scoring thriller on Saturday. Veeran’s have a destructive batsman in Baba Aparajith who can toy with any bowling attack. It would be an interesting contest between the Chepauk new ball bowlers and the Aparajith.Â
With NS Chaturved, R Sanjay Yadav and the likes of Hari Nishanth in their ranks, Aparajith’s men have a strong batting lineup. R Rohit, Abhishek Tanwar and the experienced Rahil Shah head their bowling unit. It was Rahil, who bowled the final over on Saturday denying Kings the required 13 runs. Malolan Rangarajan is a good all-rounder.
With both the teams on eight points each after six matches, the team that handles pressure well in all three departments should romp home.
