Going Viral: Usain Bolt’s cheeky grin during 100-metre dash floors internet
Usain Bolt made history by winning his third gold medal at three consecutive games. But it was a sensational photograph of him by photographer Cameron Spencer that became a social media hit instantly. The image captures the incredible moment Bolt qualified for the men’s 100 metre run at the Rio Olympics with such apparent ease.

The image, which shows Bolt looking over his left shoulder at Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse, who appeared considerably less relaxed, was being shared widely on social media, where some suggested Bolt was simply ‘jogging’. He was so fast, he literally had time to pose for the cameras.
The photograph has even attracted the praise of US commentators as capturing ‘the essence of Bolt so perfectly’, and ‘pretty much Bolt’s whole career in one photo’.
Bolt posted a time of 9.86 seconds in the semi-final, and was in complete control of the race from the start. Now, as the world celebrates the history-making final dash, the Internet has turned such a meme-worthy image into a viral moment.
