The Madurai franchise — owned by Kothari (Madras) International Limited are bullish of an impressive performance in the inaugural Tamil Nadu Premier League with a meticulous strategy. Building block by block for a strong foundation, they have roped in Australia World Cup winner Michael Bevan as the coach.

The Madurai team is packed with all-rounders starting from S Suresh Kumar (second pick, off-spinner and top-order batsman), S Thiagarajan (opener and medium-pacer), Vignesh Ganapathy, M Raja, P Shijith Chandran, L Vignesh, Maan Bafna (off spin and top order batsman) Muruganantham (middle-order bat, leg spin) and R Vivek. A specialist spinner in D T Chandrasekhar adds vigour in the bowling department. The team’s skipper K B Arun Karthik, who was picked as the first choice player in the draft, said his team is ready to take on the new challenge.
“The players were picked after a lot of strategic discussions. We wanted a core group who knew each other very well. The wave length among team mates is very important in these short tournaments. We are happy to get what we wanted and we are raring to go,” Karthik added.
The wicket-keeper batsman added that he was looking forward to working with Bevan. “He will be here soon. I am excited and want to share a lot of ideas with him. He has had a good stint as a coach and is regarded as one of the best finishers in the world in his time. Having Bevan as a guiding force is a shot in the arm for us,” Karthik added. Apart the skipper, the team owner A Rafiq expressed happiness on the composition of the squad. “We are pleased with our team and happy to have Michael Bevan as our coach for this season,” he said during the player draft.
