‘Cricket is not just about batting, bowling and fielding’
Pursuing a sport that one loves as a career is a mighty challenge in the country. More so, if it is cricket. With a huge number of coaching camps in the city, with different styles and techniques, children often get misguided and lose their originality in trying to shape up like their idols.

Clearing the misconceptions on cricket, former South African spinner Nicky Boje said making aspirants understanding the importance of an overall experience is vital. “Children nowadays perceive cricket as just a game of batting, bowling or fielding. This should be corrected at the start. We plan to improve not just their technique, but also their fitness, strength, along with hand-eye coordination. This will start making them see a sport for all its aspects,” Boje said, who is in the city along with former players Herschelle Gibbs, Courtney Walsh, Lance Klusener and Davy Jacobs for a camp conducted by Ultimate Sports Coaching — an initiative by Golden Goose Sports.
However, according to Herschelle Gibbs, India lack in fitness. “From an Indian perspective, where cricket is concerned, one issue I can find is the height of development and passion they hold for the game. But they still have a long way to go when it comes to coordination and overall fitness,” he said.
