Messi’s boots for auction spark outrage in Egypt
Lionel Messi seems to have sparked an outrage in Egypt because he gave his boots to be auctioned in the country.

The Barcelona superstar donated his boots on Egyptian TV show ‘Yes I am Famous’ as gesture of good will. But it has not gone down well with some in Egypt, a country where shoe is an insult and Azmy Megahed, a spokesman for the Egyptian Football Association, voiced his displeasure. He said: “Our poor people don’t need him. Shoes work for him. “I’m confused, if he intends to humiliate us, then I say he better put those shoes on his head and on the heads of the people supporting him.” Mona El Sharkawy, the host of the show who took the boots, defended the five-time Ballon d’Or winner and said people had misinterpreted what happened. She said: “This is so false. It’s a trend on our show that we take a souvenir from our guest and put it up for auction for charity. I am surprised.”
