A polished knock of 117 by Shreyas Iyer helped Mumbai take control of their Ranji Trophy final match against Saurashtra here on Thursday.
Pune
Mumbai reached 258 for five on the strength of Iyer’s century by close of play on the second day for a lead of 23 runs on first innings against Saurashtra with five first-innings wickets remaining. Iyer joined Suryakumar Yadav when Mumbai were 23 for two in reply to Saurashtra’s 235 and the two added 152 runs for the third wicket in 35.4 overs. Iyer left just before tea after facing 142 balls hitting 15 fours and two sixes.
Unadkat took two early wickets upfront, first accounting for Herwadkar caught at third slip and then sending back Thakkar to put pressure on Mumbai. Earlier, Kulkarni returned a five-wicket haul when he dismissed PN Mankad, who made 66. Mankad went for a full-blooded cover drive and could only edge a catch to second slip. Saurashtra tail wagged as Unadkat hit two sixes in his 31 and helped his team reach a total of 235. Brief scores: Saurashtra 235 (AV Vasavada 77, PN Mankad 66, JD Unadkat 31, Dhawal Kulkarni 5-42); Mumbai 258 for 5 (Shreyas Iyer 117, S Yadav 48, Unadkat 2)
