Life's Lessons: Will power to overcome odds

A rich man who had a beautiful daughter said ‘A young man who will stay in the cold water of the lake till morning, will have my daughter as his wife.” 

A poor man who loved the girl said he was determined to take up the challenge. In order to help him his mother made a fire atop a hillock 40 paces away.  Seeing the fire, animals kept away and the man withstood the cold as he wanted to win the girl’s hand. 

But the rich man refused to give his daughter saying he had derived warmth from the fire 40 paces away. The case came up before the village judge. He said he would talk only after the pot of water placed near a fire 40 paces away begins to boil. 

Realising his folly, the rich man gave his daughter in marriage to the young man.
