On persistent enquiries and some argument on the Tangedco’s preaching on conserving power, one official was quick to ‘find that it was not Pammal’. He was ‘sure that the photos were from some other location. But more ingenious explanations were to follow. One official, probably the cleverest of the lot, said streetlights do not consume much power and hence nothing much was lost.
However, a senior official, on hearing the out-of-the-box answers, shouted at them for failing to act in a responsible manner. The explanation he could offer was that the staff failed to switch off the grid that supplied power to light up the streets.
The new age technology allows everything, including the opening of massive dam shutters, with the click of a mouse or the turn of a knob. But, probably, Tangedco is not much bothered about the ‘mild pilferage’ on the streets.
