COIMBATORE: Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary Vaiko on Monday asserted that his party would never seek a share in power.
Speaking to the media in Coimbatore, Vaiko said that MDMK has never raised such demands for a share in power, ‘nor do we intend to do so.’
While dismissing speculation on the number of seats his party would seek to contest the upcoming Assembly polls, he said that discussions on power sharing would take place only after an alliance negotiation committee was formed. He, however, expressed confidence that DMK would win and come back to power with an absolute majority.
Terming the Union Budget a huge disappointment, Vaiko accused the Centre of neglecting Tamil Nadu. “The budget has belied expectations for allocation of additional funds to poll-bound states. Once again, Tamil Nadu has been sidelined in the budget,” he said.
Criticising the lack of any incentive schemes for textile hubs such as Coimbatore, Karur and Tirupur. Vaiko flagged the absence of any announcement on the Metro Rail projects, while fuel prices weren’t reduced.
Referring to the government’s claim that a proposed trade agreement with the European Union would offset the impact of US tariff pressures, Vaiko pointed out that the agreement would come into effect only after April 2027, questioning how the centre planned to manage the economy until then.
Vaiko also hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming he doesn’t enjoy a good image at the national level.
