

TIRUCHY: Municipal Administration Minister and DMK principal secretary KN Nehru on Saturday said the party women's wing's Vellum Tamil Pengal conference in the Delta would reaffirm the party’s stronghold over the region and serve as a major show of strength ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
Inspecting the preparatory works for the Vellum Tamil Pengal conference scheduled to be held in Thanjavur on January 19, Nehru said the event would commence at 4 pm and would be presided over by DMK deputy general secretary and Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi. He said party workers had been instructed to mobilise 10 women from each booth in the entire region, with around 1.5 lakh women expected to participate from nearly 12,000 booths across the Delta districts.
“The conference will once again prove that the DMK has a firm grip over the Delta region and that the people will support the party to form the government again in 2026,” Nehru said.
He also revealed that while party leaders had sought permission from the Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin to organise a youth wing conference similar to the Thiruvannamalai event. He added that Stalin had advised holding the women’s conference first. “Following the Chief Minister’s direction, the women’s wing conference has been scheduled first, and the youth wing conference will be held at Virudhunagar on January 22,” he added.
Ministers MRK Panneerselvam, Govi Chezhiaan, Siva V Meyyanathan, CV Ganesan, S Sivasankar, S Regupathy and other party leaders were present during the inspection.
